Passing the torch - sort of

It finally happened. I heard the words I never expected to hear:

"Dad, when do I get to ride the scooter?"

Up until now, Luke would never have wanted to be caught dead NEAR THE SCOOTER, never mind ON THE SCOOTER.

My initial answer was a resounding "NEVER!". But then I ultimately relented when mom said it would be OK.

That was a total shock.

My answer of "never" was based on the fact that I figured she would not say yes, so I figured I would take one for the team.

So I gave Luke the quick tour of the controls. Throttle, brakes, horn and then sent him on his way up and down the alley behind our house. He was a bit wobbly at first, but he got the hang of it pretty quickly.

After a couple of runs up and down the alley, I turned him loose for a quick lap around the neighborhood.

All this time mom was a bit concerned and did her best to hide it, but the photo says it all. I think Daisy was nervous as well, but she hid it better.

About 5 minutes later he returned with a huge grin on his face.

He is now the latest addition to the Cheap Chinese Scooter family.

Who knows where this is going to lead him. Oh, the places he will go.
